HEALING FOCUS

East Africa has long been a well-known wildlife safari destination. Safari means ‘a journey’ in Swahili. This journey can explore both the external landscape and also the internal landscape of the soul. At Hatari Lodge and Shu’mata Camp you experience natural healing beauty and rhythms of African wildlife and splendid landscapes as they sing with and rejuvenate your soul.

Take your mind-body-spirit practices on safari! We know that the most cutting-edge strategies for inner peace and rejuvenation involve deep immersion into nature. There is no better place to experience true primordial nature than in East Africa, the cradle of humankind.

ABOUT

Shu’mata Camp is nestled peacefully in the natural landscapes of Tanzania. At Shu’mata Camp, in the heart of Maasailand, guests participate in meditation guided by a Maasai traditional healer and practice yoga overlooking Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The lodges are located in northern Tanzania, in close proximity to the world famous wildlife viewing national parks – Serengeti, Arusha National Park, the Amboseli ecosystem and Ngorongoro Conservation Area — and from both locations you can view Mt. Kilimanjaro while knowing you are in the habitat of giraffes, elephants, Cape buffalo, zebra and many more of the awe-inspiring African wildlife. Lodge meals are created using fresh locally-sourced organic ingredients, and all special diets can be catered for.

During select times of the year, Healing Safaris are conducted and scheduled by a Deepak Chopra-certified Vedic Master. These safaris include daily yoga and meditation sessions, lessons on indigenous Maasai healing practices, visits with a spiritual healer, traditional medicinal plant teas and soups, massages and walking meditations in un-fenced wilderness areas. Guests have the opportunity to explore in-depth the traditional Maasai practices for health and happiness as described in the book Time is Cows: Timeless Wisdom of the Maasai by Tanya Pergola, PhD.

Hatari Lodge and Shu’mata Camp are part of The African Embassy Safaris and a flying safari to the Serengeti and other transcendent places can be integrated into a guest’s itinerary.

The primordial African bush is one of the most profound ways to re-connect with nature in its purest form. A place where your mind, body and spirit finds grounding, and you can truly relax. Hatari Lodge and Shu’mata Camp are your bases for a one-of-a-kind safari in Africa, come and soak up nature and indigenous culture in pure and adventurous luxury.

SPA & THERAPIES

Healing Safaris integrate a traditional wildlife safari with a destination spa experience. We start our days with meditation followed by yoga practice. Experience amazing game drives viewing African wildlife in their natural habitats while receiving lessons about how we can communicate with wildlife and landscapes to find healing in our mind-body-spirits.

All three lodges where we stay are oases in the womb of Mother Nature. All meals are made with local, fresh ingredients and our chefs cater to all food sensitivities. We begin at Hatari Lodge, where giraffes often greet you upon arrival, helping you immediately feel your energy calming down.
