Vegetarianism describes a way of living that tries to exclude eating meat, fish and poultry.

There are different types of Vegetarianism:

  • lacto-ovo vegetarians: no meat, poultry or fish, but eat eggs and dairy products
  • lacto-vegetarians: no meat, poultry, fish or eggs, but eat dairy products
  • ovo-vegetarians: no meat, poultry, fish or dairy products, but eat eggs
  • vegans: only plant-derived foods

A vegetarian diet can be healthy, if a wide variety of foods is provided; this includes fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, whole grain products, nuts, seeds and legumes.
