Watsu is a fusion of water and shiatsu and thereby a massage performed in warm water. The receiver of the treatment is continuously supported by the therapist while he or she rocks and gently stretches the body.###

As the treatment is performed under water, the body can be stretched in ways that would be impossible on land. Especially the lifting powers as well as the resistance of the water are important factors. The receiver can completely relax in the warm water while he or she is moved around. This implies that the receiver has to trust the therapists to a great extend. It should be considered that body contact is quite close and intimate. Thus, this treatment might not be suitable for everyone.

Watsu creates an absolute state of relaxation. The passive movements in the warm water create a feeling of weightlessness. The joints are relieved and the blood circulation is promoted. Some people even describe this experience as a rebirthing experience.
