Kinh Bac, the historic region around today's Bac Ninh, is one of northern Vietnam's cultural heartlands, known for Quan Ho folk singing, Dong Ho folk paintings and the pottery of Phu Lang. Senna Wellness Retreat takes this inheritance as its starting point. On Ong Tu Hill, its grounds hold a temple to General Tran Luu and a walking meditation house, and the mature and heritage trees have been kept standing. Folk-painting motifs and Phu Lang ceramics shape the interiors. Here, healing draws on craft, landscape and memory as much as on treatments.
At Senna, the first thing you get back is time: time to eat well, sleep deeply and notice how you actually feel. Everything here follows three simple words: Nourish, Rest and Empower. Nourish looks after the body, with seasonal Vietnamese cooking made from local produce, vegetarian and vegan dishes, massage, and yoga, Pilates and therapeutic Qi Gong among the trees. Rest gives the mind room to go quiet. There’s meditation, breathwork and singing bowl sessions, and slow hours spent between the saltwater pool, the herbal steam and the Himalayan salt room. Empower is what stays with you after you leave: a calmer rhythm and a few habits worth keeping at home. Each stay can be shaped around the guest, and a health and wellness consultation is available to help with that.
Senna’s signature is its seasonal Sound Journey. Sessions such as the Floating Sound Bath and Aerial Sound Bath bring sound together with water, movement and the hillside setting. Each season has its own intention, setting and soundscape, so returning guests get a different experience. Senna doesn’t treat wellness as a list of separate treatments. Nature, water, sound, touch, movement, food and local culture run through the whole stay. That culture comes from Kinh Bac, and it shapes everything from the food to the interiors.
„A serene hilltop sanctuary in historic Kinh Bac, where ancient heritage, seasonal soundscapes, and nature align to nourish, rest, and renew.“
Senna feels hidden away, yet Hanoi is only 40 minutes down the road. The retreat covers about five hectares of green hillside on Ong Tu Hill, in the old Kinh Bac region, where temples, pagodas and centuries-old craft villages are close by and Quan Ho folk songs are still sung.
That heritage carries through the whole retreat. The design follows the Five Elements, and each area of rooms, bungalows and villas is linked to one of them. Dong Ho folk-painting motifs and Quai Thao hats appear in the restaurant, the lounge and the rooms, and a large ceramic wall made with Phu Lang pottery is a standout. Dinner can be a Vietnamese meal of local, seasonal produce at Moc Dining or a contemporary Asian-European menu at Sola Kitchen. Children, couples, solo travellers and pets are all welcome.
At Senna, sustainability starts with the land. Mature and heritage trees have been kept, green spaces are protected as habitat for birds and wildlife, and single-use plastic is kept to a minimum. Senna trains local talent and gives back through seasonal campaigns, from a children’s festival in northern Vietnam to outreach for patients at cancer hospitals.

Few retreats share their hill with a temple. Within Senna's grounds stand a shrine to General Tran Luu and a memorial stele, a short walk from the walking meditation house. Rest here happens beside a place of remembrance, and that gives the stillness real weight.
